Where to hide antenna

Postby KC3EVL » Fri Jun 10, 2016 10:40 am

My wife does not want wires all over the place. Here is a picture of my home in Bethlehem. How can I make my DX antenna stealthy where should I put it. Everyone indicates to get a OCF antenna. I have tried the evil G5RV in the tree but still had wires stringing through middle of lawn. I also tried it on fence which is 6 ft high which did not seem to help much. Any suggestions. My next thought was putting the antenna higher and running it along eaves or something like that. Here is picture of my house

Let me think on it a bit. Is that off street parking on Hottle Ave. yours? (I used Google Earth to get a snap of your QTH.)

With narrow lots like this you might be better off with a vertical antenna if you can get away with it. With a 6' height you'll never get anywhere. You need to be up 30' or so if you are trying to work the HF bands.

Yes the off street is mine I was told a vertical would not be a goo idea but could hang one easy in a tree I was thinking a ovf hanging Frim eaves of house or at an angle from house

In your case, a vertical may be the best way to go. The issue is that you will need to come up with some way to put some radial system down. However, once the radials are "planted" the grass more or less grows over them and they become relatively invisible.

What bands are you trying to cover? Obviously a vertical isn't going to be very good with anything above 40m because the height of it will be prohibitive.

The June issue of QST had an article on a counterpoise tuner. The idea was to allow you to get away with having your shack above physical ground and still have a decent RF ground. Maybe you could do the same sort of thing with a vertical on your roof and tuned radials on or along your roof.
